Arrive at month-end sign-off with the prep already done
To prepare a month-end close with AI agents, connect QuickBooks or Xero, your payment app, and a Google Sheet checklist to Brainwrite. Bots run the trial balance and profit and loss, match payment payouts to deposits, list unpaid bills and open invoices, and tick off each prep step with evidence. A qualified person reviews the exceptions, makes the entries, and signs off.

September is over. Work through the Close checklist sheet: run the trial balance and P&L in Xero, match Stripe payouts to deposits using the bank export in the sheet, list unpaid bills and open invoices, and compare with August. Tick each step with a note and list exceptions for my bookkeeper. Do not record or change anything in Xero.

The job
Doing it yourself, and handing it off.
Doing it yourself
Month-end close is a checklist that lives in someone's head or an old spreadsheet. Run the reports, match the Stripe payouts to the bank deposits, chase the missing receipts, find the uncategorised transactions, compare with last month. Each step is simple and slow, and the whole thing takes days because it gets fitted around everything else. The judgement calls at the end get the least time.
What the team does
- Run trial balance, profit and loss, and balance sheet reports for the month
- Match Stripe payouts to deposits in the books or a bank export
- List unpaid bills and open invoices at month end
- Compare each report with last month and mark large changes
What waits for you
- Every journal entry, adjustment, and reclassification
- How each exception is resolved
- Sign-off of the close, by a qualified person

How it runs
A run, step by step.
- 01
Write the checklist
Put your close steps in a Google Sheet. The Chief works through them in order and records evidence for each.
- 02
Grant read access
Connect your accounting and payment apps with read tools. The bots prepare; they do not post entries.
- 03
Run the prep
Ask for the close prep after the month ends. Bots run reports, match payouts, and list exceptions.
- 04
Review and sign off
Your bookkeeper or accountant reviews the exceptions, makes the entries, and signs off the close.

FAQ
Questions about Month-end close checklist
Can AI close the books for me?
No. The bots prepare: they run reports, match payouts, and list exceptions against your checklist. Journal entries, adjustments, and sign-off belong to a bookkeeper or accountant who understands your books. Treat the prep as a starting point that still needs a qualified review.
Will the bots post entries in QuickBooks or Xero?
Grant them read tools only for this job and they cannot. Even with wider access, recording a payment waits for an approval card unless you have allowed it. The Inspector shows every tool call a bot made, so your reviewer can see exactly what was read.
Can the close prep run automatically each month?
Routines run once, at a repeating interval, or on the weekdays you choose, so there is no first-of-the-month setting. Ask for the prep when the month ends, or set a one-time routine for the date and create the next one after sign-off.
