Brainwrite vs Claude Code
Brainwrite is a macOS app for running a team of AI agents, and Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent that Brainwrite can use as an engine. Claude Code works in your terminal, IDE, desktop app or browser. Brainwrite adds a Chief of Staff, specialist bots, memory, connected apps and routines on top. You still need your own Claude plan.

The short answer: Use Claude Code alone for coding work; add Brainwrite when you want several Claude-powered bots with their own roles, apps and schedules working as a team.
Private by design
Brainwrite runs on your Mac, or on your organisation's own server with the Organisation plan at $750 a year and a licence key for each paid year. Chats, files, and bot memory stay with you; bots talk only to the AI providers and apps you choose.
Security and privacy →Your AI, with no markup
Bots run on Claude, Codex, Grok, Cursor, local models, and more, under the plans you already pay for. Your provider bills that usage as usual; Brainwrite adds nothing to it, and you can switch a bot's engine without losing its memory.

Fair's fair
Where Claude Code is ahead.
If one of these matters most to you, it may be the better choice today.
Built for code
Claude Code lives where developers work: the terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, GitHub Actions and GitLab CI. For deep work inside one repository it is the more direct tool.
Runs on more platforms
The CLI runs on macOS, Linux and Windows, and Claude Code is also on the web and in the Claude mobile app. Brainwrite is macOS only today.
Lower starting cost
Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20 a month. Brainwrite costs $99 a month on top of the AI plan you already pay for.
Where Brainwrite fits
What Brainwrite does differently.
A team, not one session
A Chief of Staff takes your request, hands focused tasks to specialist bots, and sums up the results. Each bot keeps its own role, memory and working folder.
Mix engines per bot
Run one bot on Claude and another on Codex, Grok or Cursor. You can also add named Claude accounts, such as Work and Personal, and pick one per bot.
Business apps with tight grants
Bots connect to apps through Composio. Each bot gets all tools, an exact list, or none, and imported bots start with none.
A computer per bot
Give a bot this Mac, a local VM, a hosted cloud computer or your own Linux VPS, with a built-in browser you can watch and take over.
Which should you choose?
Pick the one that matches your work.
Choose Claude Code if…
- Your work is mostly writing, reviewing and shipping code in a repository.
- You need Windows or Linux support today.
- You want the lowest cost and a Claude plan alone covers it.
Choose Brainwrite if…
- You want several bots with separate roles, memory and tools working together.
- Your work spans email, CRM, docs and research, not only code.
- You want to mix Claude with Codex or other engines across bots.
Using them together
Yes, and that is the usual setup. Brainwrite starts the Claude CLI you have installed and signed in, and uses it as a bot's engine, so Anthropic bills the model usage through your Claude plan. By default, Claude bots in Brainwrite do not load your personal Claude Code MCP servers, skills or hooks. A setting lets them also use your Claude Code MCP servers.
FAQ
Brainwrite vs Claude Code: questions
Does Brainwrite replace Claude Code?
No. Brainwrite runs on top of Claude Code. It starts the Claude CLI you have installed and signed in, and uses it as the engine for your bots. Claude still does the model work and Anthropic bills it through your plan. Brainwrite adds roles, a Chief of Staff, memory, connected apps, routines and approvals around it.
Do I need a Claude subscription to use Brainwrite?
You need at least one supported agent engine installed and signed in. Claude Code is one option; Codex, Grok, Cursor, Kimi, OpenCode and others also work. Brainwrite plans do not include AI usage. Claude Code itself is included in Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, but not in Claude Free.
Can Claude Code run scheduled tasks on its own?
Yes. Claude Code has cloud routines that keep running when your computer is off, desktop scheduled tasks that run on your machine, and a /loop command that repeats a prompt in a session. Brainwrite routines add per-bot schedules, run receipts and one results thread across a whole team.
Can I use more than one Claude account in Brainwrite?
Yes. In Settings, under Engines, you can add named Claude accounts such as Work and Personal, then choose the account per bot. Each account signs in through Claude's own login. Brainwrite does not rotate accounts automatically, and named accounts work for Claude only.
