Think out loud with a bot that knows your work

To talk a problem through with an AI agent, start a call with a Brainwrite bot from the composer. In Take turns mode it listens on your Mac and answers in its own voice. In Live mode, through OpenAI GPT-Live with your key, you can interrupt while it keeps working. It can read your notes and files as you talk, then write up what you settled on.

Talk a problem through

Call me through this: I am deciding whether to hire a second designer or use contractors for the next six months. Ask me questions one at a time, check the hiring budget in the Plans sheet when it comes up, and push back if I am avoiding something. At the end, write up the options and what I decided.

  • Sage· Researcher
  • Call mode: Take turns; listening stayed on your Mac
  • Checked during the call: the Plans sheet allows 9,000 a month for design
  • Pushback raised: contractor costs in Q3 ran 20% over their quotes
  • Written up: 3 options, your decision to hire one contractor for 3 months, then review

DoneThe decision itself waits for you. Nothing was sent.

The job

Doing it yourself, and handing it off.

Doing it yourself

Some problems are easier to solve by talking. You need someone to ask the obvious question, push back, and remember what you said ten minutes ago. Colleagues are busy, and a blank document does not ask questions. Typing into a chatbot turns thinking into writing, which is slower, and a general chatbot knows nothing about your project, your numbers, or what you decided last week.

What the team does

  • Ask questions and push back on weak spots in your reasoning
  • Use its saved memory of your work and the files in its working folder
  • Check facts during the call, or delegate a check to another bot
  • Write up the options, the decision, and next steps when you ask

What waits for you

  • The decision itself
  • Whether to use Take turns, which listens on your Mac, or Live, which sends audio to OpenAI
  • Any action the bot proposes, which still waits for your approval

The team

Who's on it.

Your Chief of Staff picks the specialists the job needs. Each has its own role, instructions, model, and app access.

  • AtlasIllustrated example

    Thinking partner

The bot you call. It asks questions, pushes back, and uses its memory of your work and the files in its working folder.

  • SageIllustrated example

    Researcher

A specialist the partner can delegate to during the call, such as checking a number in a sheet or reading a doc.

How it runs

A run, step by step.

  1. 01

    Pick a voice

Under Voice & alerts, choose the bot's voice engine and voice, such as a built-in Mac voice or ElevenLabs.

  2. 02

    Start a call

Choose the call button in the composer. In a chat with one bot, pick Take turns or Live.

  3. 03

    Think out loud

Talk through the problem. Tool progress and approval requests can be read out while the bot works.

  4. 04

    Write it down

Before you finish, ask the bot to write up the options, what you decided, and next steps.

FAQ

Questions about Talk a problem through

What is the difference between Take turns and Live calls?

Take turns listens with Apple's on-device recognition and the bot answers in its own voice; the microphone pauses while it speaks. Live calls use OpenAI GPT-Live, so you can talk naturally and interrupt while the bot keeps working. Live needs your OpenAI key from a project with GPT-Live access.

What does a voice call cost?

Take turns calls need no OpenAI key. Live calls are billed by OpenAI at about $0.05 per minute. In both cases, the bot's own work during the call is billed by its AI provider as usual. Some voices, such as ElevenLabs or Fish Audio, need their own API keys.

Is a voice call private?

Take turns calls listen on your Mac, and only text goes to the bot's AI provider. A Live call sends your voice, the chat's recent messages, the bot's answers, and any approval details to OpenAI. Choose Take turns for sensitive topics.
